Camp cooking has always been one of our favorite things to do. Yes, a box of energy bars and a bag of trail mix might keep you going, but that’s not much fun. We’ve pushed the envelope and made things more fun and interesting in a number of ways. We’ve cooked a hearty pork roast dinner and topped it off by baking a chocolate cake in the dutch oven. You don’t need a lot of fancy cooking gear to be a gourmet camp chef. All you need is some pots and pans, a set of basic recipes and a little practice and you’re there. Whatever level of cooking you plan to do, be prepared for the unexpected. Camp cooking is always an adventure as no matter how well you prepare yourself there something is bound to happen that makes your experience extraordinary — both good and bad. And always remember, there’s nothing worse than crunchy campfire ash in your eggs.
